Is 200mg per week too high of a starting dose for TRT?

Asked in r/Testosterone · Answered by the HeydayMD team ·

I just received my first TRT protocol and it's for 200mg a week, but I've read that starting that high might cause more side effects than benefits. Should I start lower to see how I react?

The short answer

Most clinical guidelines, including the Endocrine Society, recommend starting TRT at a conservative dose of 75–100 mg per week to find your 'sweet spot' without unnecessary side effects. While some clinics default to 200 mg, starting lower allows you to monitor how your body aromatizes testosterone into estrogen and DHT before increasing. At HeydayMD, our providers prioritize a personalized approach, often recommending split doses (2-3 times per week) to maintain stable blood levels and minimize the 'peaks and valleys' associated with infrequent injections.

Every body is different. A licensed provider can look at your own labs and symptoms.
