I stopped TRT after 3 years and my labs are back to normal. Is this common?

Asked in r/trt · Answered by the HeydayMD team ·

The poster successfully discontinued TRT after three years and is surprised to find their testosterone levels have returned to a normal physiological range.

The short answer

It is encouraging to see your HPTA (hypothalamic-pituitary-testicular axis) recover after three years of therapy, as many men fear permanent suppression. While 'normal' labs are a great sign, it is important to monitor how you feel clinically, as total testosterone numbers don't always tell the full story of your hormonal health. At HeydayMD, we often help men navigate these transitions to ensure their free testosterone and symptoms remain optimized post-treatment. If you find your symptoms returning despite normal total levels, further investigation into your SHBG and lifestyle factors is warranted.
