Can I just get TRT from my regular doctor or should I see a specialist?

Asked in r/Testosterone · Answered by the HeydayMD team ·

I've been feeling the symptoms of low T lately, but I'm not sure if I should just bring it up at my annual physical or find a clinic that focuses on this. My current GP is great, but he seems pretty rushed during our appointments.

The short answer

While primary care physicians can technically prescribe testosterone, many lack the specialized training required to manage the complex hormonal nuances and long-term monitoring involved in TRT. Specialists focus on optimizing your levels rather than just getting you into the "normal" range, which often leads to better symptom relief and fewer side effects. At HeydayMD, our clinicians specialize exclusively in men's hormonal health, ensuring your protocol is tailored to your specific biomarkers and lifestyle goals. This focused expertise allows for more frequent lab reviews and proactive management that a busy general practice may not be equipped to provide.

Every body is different. A licensed provider can look at your own labs and symptoms.
