Just started TRT—should I increase my gym volume and intensity right away?

Asked in r/trt · Answered by the HeydayMD team ·

I just started my first protocol two weeks ago and I'm already feeling a boost in energy. I want to know if I should start adding more sets to my gym routine or if I should stick to what I was doing before.

The short answer

While TRT significantly enhances recovery and protein synthesis, it is best to maintain your current training volume for the first 4-6 weeks to allow your body to adjust to its new hormonal baseline. Once your levels stabilize, you can gradually increase intensity or frequency, as your muscles and central nervous system will likely handle higher workloads with less fatigue. At HeydayMD, our clinical team monitors these physiological shifts closely to ensure your fitness goals align safely with your lab results. Working with a specialized clinic helps you optimize this transition period without risking overtraining or connective tissue injuries.

Every body is different. A licensed provider can look at your own labs and symptoms.
