Does TRT actually improve grip strength and forearm size?

Asked in r/Testosterone · Answered by the HeydayMD team ·

Noticed my forearms looking a bit thicker and holding onto heavy deadlifts way better a few months into TRT. Is this an actual androgen effect or just placebo from lifting more?

The short answer

Androgens like testosterone play a significant role in neuromuscular function, skeletal muscle hypertrophy, and overall strength development, including the dense muscle fibers recruited in grip-intensive lifts. While much of the initial strength spike comes from improved recovery and central nervous system drive, optimized testosterone levels do support actual tissue adaptation in the forearms.
